TIMPANOGOS SPECIAL SERVICE DISTRICT

TSSD Original Cover.jpg

Alder Construction is thrilled to return to the Timpanogos Special Service District plant for some major upgrades!  The  Master Improvement Plan "Package C" project, scheduled to begin late 2024 and running through 2029, will include:

Primary Treatment

The purpose of primary treatment is to remove a portion of the untreated solids from the raw influent stream and send it to thickening and digestion. This also reduces organic load on the bioreactors effectively increasing their capacity. The recommended approach listed in the Master Plan for primary treatment, considering site constraints, is primary filtration.

Primary Sludge Thickening and Straining

To reduce heating costs and digester size, the primary solids will be thickened and strained. The Master Plan recommended the District look closely at thickening centrifuges for mechanical thickening.

Anaerobic Digestion

To reduce the mass of biosolids requiring disposal and to produce revenue generating biogas, anaerobic digestion will be added. The Master Plan touted the long term operational benefits of egg-shaped digesters (ESDs); District staff would like to consider ESDs in the analysis. The Master Plan recommended the District start with Class B mesophilic units but include a path in the design to get to Class A digestion.

Gas Upgrading

TSSD has been looking carefully at capturing the methane gas generated in the anaerobic digestion process, scrubbing the gas, and selling the gas as renewable natural gas (RNG). Gas upgrading is the Master Plan’s recommended approach to use the biogas.

We are mobilizing on-site September of 2024 and are eager to begin these vital upgrades for the surrounding communities!
