TIMPANOGOS SPECIAL SERVICE DISTRICT - THERMAL DRYER

TSSD Original Cover.jpg

Alder Construction is constructing a new biosolids thermal drying facility at the Timpanogos Special Service District as part of a multi-phase upgrade to the District’s solids handling program.

The Thermal Dryer Project will convert dewatered biosolids into a dried, pelletized product, significantly reducing volume and creating a more manageable and reusable end product. The facility includes a fully integrated building housing specialized drying equipment and supporting systems.

Major elements of the project include:

  • Construction of a new multi-area Thermal Dryer Building, including:

    • Hopper storage and feed systems

    • Thermal dryer process rooms

    • Boiler systems and heat exchange infrastructure

    • Electrical control (MCC) and operations spaces

  • Installation and assembly of thermal drying equipment, including dual dryer trains and conveyance systems

  • Structural platforms, catwalks, and maintenance access systems

  • Construction of a biosolids storage silo and truck loadout facilities, including a truck scale system

  • Site civil improvements, including deep foundations, yard piping, and utility connections

  • Installation of advanced odor control systems, including carbon adsorption and chemical scrubber systems

The project integrates pre-purchased, vendor-supplied process equipment with site-built infrastructure, requiring precise coordination between trades, suppliers, and engineers.

Once complete, the thermal drying facility will significantly reduce biosolids disposal costs and support the District’s goal of producing a Class A biosolids product.
