About the Role
We are seeking a Junior Estimator to support the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects. This role is responsible for quantity take-offs, subcontractor coordination, and assisting with bid preparation. The Junior Estimator will work closely with Senior Estimators and Project Managers to ensure estimates are complete, organized, and aligned with project scope and company standards.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Prepare and review plans, specifications, and project documents to understand the scope of work.
• Perform quantity take-offs for labor, materials, and equipment.
• Verify quantity take-offs and supporting data for accuracy prior to estimate submission.
• Solicit and track subcontractor and supplier quotes.
• Assist with preparation of bid proposals and supporting documentation.
• Identify scope gaps, inconsistencies, and potential risks and escalate to Senior Estimator.
• Support estimate reviews and revisions prior to bid submission.
• Assist with pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed.
• Maintain organized estimate files for turnover and audit purposes.
• Assist in project handoff to Project Managers upon award.
• Support change order pricing and cost tracking during construction.
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Senior Estimator.
Skills:
• Basic understanding of construction methods and terminology.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, including the ability to organize estimate data, build and maintain spreadsheets, perform quantity and cost calculations, and track subcontractor and supplier pricing.
• Strong communication skills with internal teams and external vendors.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines."
Salary - $60,000 - $90,000 DOE
Requirements
· One to three years of construction, estimating, or Project Engineer experience is preferred.
· A Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
· Reliable transportation to and from the office and job sites is required.
· Ability to sit, stand, and walk job sites, as well as work on a computer for extended periods, is required.
· Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
· Ability to work extended hours during bid deadlines is required.
· Willingness to travel to job sites and work in varying weather conditions is required.
