TIMPANOGOS SANITARY SEWER DISTRICT - DIGESTER COMPLEX

The Timpanogos Sanitary Sewer District Digester Complex is one of the largest biosolids infrastructure improvements ever undertaken by the District. Alder Construction is serving as Construction Manager/General Contractor for this major expansion, which includes construction of new anaerobic digestion and renewable biogas facilities designed to increase treatment capacity, improve process reliability, and support the District's long-term sustainability goals.
Key Components
-
Construction of two 80-foot diameter, 114-foot-tall steel egg-shaped anaerobic digesters providing a combined 4.5 million gallons of biosolids treatment capacity.
-
Construction of a new digested sludge storage facility, gas handling systems, pumping facilities, process piping, structural steel, electrical and instrumentation systems, and associated underground utilities.
-
Installation of advanced mechanical draft tube mixing systems capable of circulating up to 22,000 gallons per minute within each digester to optimize biological treatment performance.
-
Construction of a comprehensive biogas upgrading facility that captures methane generated during digestion and conditions it for renewable energy use while incorporating advanced gas compression, safety, and pressure management systems.
-
Complex phased construction within an active wastewater treatment facility requiring extensive coordination, sequencing, and maintenance of continuous plant operations.
